Back at my local track for some mid-winter racing and my first round of the eFXC Series after missing the opening round at Mallala, South Australia.
Conditions were pretty good across the weekend with some wet patches on the track for the first practice sessions on Friday. Being the first and last sessions of the day in a winter race means the electric bikes are up against a cold track and diminishing light in the afternoon.
Practice and qualifying went reasonably well on Friday qualifying with a 2.00 lap about 10 minutes before the sun set for the day.
Saturday and Sunday racing went pretty much to script with similar times to qualifying around 2.00/2.01. Sydney Motorsport Park really suits the higher performance electrics who have up to 230hp versus the 67hp on my Zero and their lap times were in the mid 1.40s. Still, I was determined to improve on my times and for the fourth and last race of the weekend I was able to knock 5 seconds off total race time and rode a 1.58 on my last lap.
My best time from practice in December last year was 2.05 so a 7 second improvement is significant but I still walked away disappointed I couldn’t have got into the lower 1.50s alongside the similarly powered Ninja 300s we ride with on Friday practice. I look forward to competing again in the last round in December and with some more experience, improved technical skills and better engine cooling I hope to knock a few more seconds off in the last race of the season.
